Peggy Bearce to Discuss Oilfield Songs on KEYZ 660

Monday, March 30th, 2009

“Scoping It Out” returns to the airwaves of News Radio KEYZ 660 AM at 4:45 p.m. Friday as we chat with Peggy Bearce.

Bearce, a local songwriter, has penned a number of songs related to the oilfield industry.

Those songs will be featured during a segment of the 3rd annual “Williston Night of Music” set to begin at 6:30 p.m. on Saturday (April 4) at the Airport International Inn.

The evening will feature a number of other groups and you can tune in for a live broadcast on KEYZ or click on the Internet at www.wsc.nodak.edu to enjoy some great sounds.

With 8 groups and more than 100 musicians you are in for a treat.

Leading off at 6:30 p.m. on Saturday will be the Williston State College Select Singers under the direction of Herb Parker Jr., along with Sandi Blikre as the accompianist.

Parker, who retired from his long-time duties at Williston High School, started the music program at WSC this past fall and had only 8 members in his choir.

On Saturday you will enjoy the sounds of some 20 singers who have been practicing for this performance.

Don’t forget about “The Tip of the Hat to the Oilfield and WWII Veterans.”

Winter Storm Follows Path Across Southern ND

Sunday, March 29th, 2009

Just about the time folks in our state thought they were out of the woods Mother Nature has unleashed another wicked storm.

Folks in the southern half were blitzed once again while the path of the storm pointed directly to the good folks in Fargo.

That in itself was bad news as they need all the help they can get.

While the mighy Red River has decided to go down, slow but sure, the test now is wheter or not the sandbags will hold.

Oak Grove Lutheran School wasn’t that lucky as the pressure was too much and the school suffered severe damage.

We can only hope things remain in place and the rest of the area can be sparred any further damage.

For now, all we can do is sit back and wait what hits us next.

Hang on for the ride.

Things Begin to Improve For Folks in Fargo Area

Sunday, March 29th, 2009

It’s a huge sigh of relief for the folks in the Fargo-Moorhead area with the raging Red River coming to a crest at approximately 41-feet.

While not out of the woods, this is certainly great news and a lot of folks are still holding their breaths to see if the sandbags do the job.

The effort put forth by thousands is something that has to be applauded.

While we sit out on the western edge, away from the destruction, it is tough to watch what is taking place.

We do know a lot of good folks from this part of the state rallied and made a trip east to join in the effort.

Much like the Grand Forks flood, good people across the state stepped up and pitched in to do whatever was necessary.

Now, Mother Nature must do her part and get on with some real spring weather.

One thing for certain a lot of baseball, track and golf teams are waiting for a change in the weather.

Another thing we can say, this is something that doesn’t happen every year.

For that we are most thankful.

Winter Refuses to Release its Grip on Our State

Wednesday, March 25th, 2009

Our thoughts and prayers have to go out to folks across the state who are going through some tough times these days thanks to Mother Nature.

While the western edge was sparred during the last winter blast, some parts of the state received as much as two feet, yes, two feet of snow.

That my friends is hard to believe.

They were even referring to it as “Thunder Snow.”

From Minot to Bismarck and east to Fargo winter has a strong hold.

Now with the flooding problems in Bismarck, along with numerous others communities including Watford City, Linton and Beulah, the big worry lies in Fargo this weekend.

We will just have to wait and see what comes out during the final push.

Stay tuned.
