Month of May is but a Few Days Away

Saturday, April 25th, 2009

While hard to believe for some, the month of May is just around the corner.

As they say, “April showers, bring May flowers.”

Well, the only trouble is the showers have been limited but the white stuff has provided a good amount of moisture.

The only thing now is a need of some warm temperatures to allow time to get in the ground, and this certainly applies to area farmers who are itching to get after it.

This has to be one of the longest winter’s on the books, but all we can do now is move ahead.

That means concentrating on spring chores and get the lawnmowers in the ready position.

Spring also means a time to get to the great outdoors to take part in the game of golf, baseball and the sport of fishing, to name a few.

Folks in Minnesota are getting excited as the opener is set for Mother’s Day Weekend.

We hope to be on hand to take part in all the fun.

Mother Nature Must Have Got The Memo

Sunday, April 19th, 2009

Well folks, it appears Mother Nature is going to give in and turn up the heat.

If we can believe the weather forecast the area is in store for some warm temps this week.

But wait, the way it looks it will be short-lived with the thermometer to drop by the weekend.

Wouldn’t you know it.

The way things have been going outdoors some of the spring sports might have to get by with shortened seasons.

There’s only so much time to get these activities in before high school graduation comes along.

For now all the competitors can do is go out and work with what is handed to them.

If Mother Nature Would Only Be Kind to ND

Sunday, April 12th, 2009

Yes folks, if Mother Nature would only be so kind as to turn up the heat.

This has to be one of the longest winter seasons in the books and the lack of spring is upsetting to a lot of folks.

The news of destruction from the snow and water continues to dominate the headlines throughout our state.

We can only hope when the dust settles the residents who have been hit the hardest will get all the help needed to get back on their feet.

FEMA appears to have arrived in our state in full force and that is certainly great news.

The individuals who are in need deserve that type of support.

Meanwhile cries go out to the state Legislature to step to the plate and deliver some added help to counties in need.

Just by viewing the evening news one can sense the extensive damage.

It will be quite some time before everything can be sorted out.

For now our thoughts and prayers to out to those affected.

John Murphy to be Featured on ‘Scoping It Out’ Friday

Thursday, April 9th, 2009

At 4:45 p.m. on Friday (April 10) you will want to have your radio dial set to News Radio KEYZ 660 AM as we chat with Professor John Murphy during an issue of “Scoping It Out.”

Murphy, a Minot native and the brother of Pat of Williston, is a music professor at Loyola University in New Orleans.

He will be in Williston on May 5 at First Lutheran Chruch with a piano performance that will be used as a fund-raiser for the music program at Williston State College.

That program is headed up by Herb Parker Jr., a good friend of Murphy.

This sounds like a concert you will definitely want to attend.
