77th Band Day to March into Williston Saturday

Thursday, May 7th, 2009

Weather or not, here comes the 77th annual Band Day.

Yes folks, the city of Williston will be putting out the red carpet as some 12 bands prepare to take part in the annual parade which begins at the El Rancho and finishes near the New Armory.

Bob Mossing of Regina, Saskatachewan, brings some 80 band members to town with his Prairie Winds Concert Band serving as the Guest Band.

Mossing has been bringing his students to Williston for many of his 50 years in the business.

The day is also set aside to honor Grand Marshal Gary Stenehjem who lost his battle with cancer just last week.

Officials opted to continue with Gary as the Honorary Parade Marshal and using this time to honor the late Williston native who brought his Jim Hill bands here over the years.

The weekend provides a great number of activities, from the Williston Vintage Classic Car Show to the WHS Rodeo at the fairgrounds.

Add to that concerts in the park, along with some fast paced racing at the Williston Basin Speedway Saturday evening.

Entertainment Inc! gets in the act with their presentation of “Pajama Game” at the Old Armory Theatre.

We encourage you to get out and enjoy.

Month of May is Finally Upon Us

Saturday, May 2nd, 2009

It seemed like it would never come, but we can finally report the month of May has arrived.

The first day of May is always exciting with it being May Day, along with Law Day and whatever kind of day you want it to be.

They say April showers can bring May flowers and believe it some tulips were actually popping up.

Although May is officially here that doesn’t mean Mother Nature is ready to get with the program.

Cool temperatures are still in the area and the time has come to simply warm up.

Folks would like to get out in their yards and enjoy some open air time after being couped up all winter.

For now, we will have to wait and see what is dished out.

Enjoy!
