Month of June is Nearly in the Books

Sunday, June 28th, 2009

Well folks, it’s about time to put the wraps on the month of June.

While hard to believe, it comes to be due to the fact we were cheated out of some nice spring days.

It was hard to believe on June 27 folks needed coats and blankets to enjoy a concert in Harmon Park.

Oh well, after all, we live in North Dakota.

Mother Nature tends to be nasty from time to time.

The only thing we can do is make the best of it and enjoy what is dished out.

We can’t forget about the fun activities ahead with the Yamaha Drum Camp at the Virgil Syverson Performance Center on Tuesday (June 30) at 5 p.m.

Chad Askim has put together a good thing and this continues to offer a great opportunity for area youngsters.

Drop by Harmon Park and support this effort.

On Saturday the VSPC will be bursting with activity once again with the annual Hometown Williston Festival to celebrate the Fourth of July.

A special guest on Saturday will be Arnegard native Vernon Skari.

Vernon, considered a world-class vocalist, will be featured at 1 p.m. at the VSPC on Saturday.

He has performed in front of two presidents and other major events.

You don’t want to miss it.

It Only Gets Better This Week in Williston

Thursday, June 25th, 2009

Last evening provided for some Great Weather, a Great Crowd and a Great Concert.

Now how can you beat that?

On top of that the mosquitoes were under control.

The Canadian trio High Valley rode into town and performed before one of the largest crowds ever to take in a concert at the Virgil Syverson Performance Center.

The evening was very enjoyable as a pre-show featured local performers, followed by High Valley.

Now the attention turns to the Williston City Band set for 7:30 p.m. this evening (June 25).

On Saturday you will have a musical doubleheader to deal with as at 3 p.m. the ND State American Legion Band will be at the VPC, followed by a 7 p.m. Eldon Johnson concert.

The Korner Lions will have the grill fired up with hamburgers available throughout the day.

Get out and enjoy.

If you are in the neighborhood you are welcome to drop by and enjoy a great evening.

This week also offers the Upper Missouri Valley Fair with Johnny Holm in concert this evening.

Concerts continue at the VSPC with the Williston City Band in concert at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, followed by two concerts on Saturday.

At 3 p.m. on Saturday the ND State American Legion Band will take center stage at the VSPC, while Eldon Johnson returns home to be in concert at 7 p.m.

Plan now to get out and enjoy.

You can also check out the YES “Summer Shorts” along with the Warren Lee baseball tourney coming to town this weekend.

Whoever said there’s nothing to do?

Bugs and Heat Arrive Hand-in-Hand

Thursday, June 18th, 2009

Hey folks, we know for sure summer has arrived.

That comes to be with the arrival of mosquitoes and sunshine.

While we missed out on the heavy rain, that sure didn’t stop those skeeters from coming out in full force.

They must have found out the Air Force had left town and came out of hiding.

Now the real fight is on as the local Vector Control goes about spraying and whatever it takes to give us a little time outdoors.

One can only hope it’s better than last year.

Oh well, all we can do is make the best of it and get out and enjoy.

It won’t be long before that white stuff comes again.
