Paul Halverson Rides to Call Attention to DAV

Monday, June 15th, 2009

On Monday Paul Halverson of Duluth, MInn., made his way into Williston on the back of a bicycle.

He took some time off for an overnight here to get some rest and resupply to resume his journey east.

Paul began his journey on May 15 in Everett, Wash., back on May 15, and has plans to end up in Bangor, Maine, sometime in August.

The nature of his ride is to call awareness to the Disabled American Veterans (DAV) programs, and encourage younger vets from the modern day conflicts to get “into the system.”

A two-tour Vietnam veteran, Paul encourages the young vets to check out what the DAV has to offer them.

He notes the DAV is not a federally funded program and deserves support.

Along the way he is also attempting to raise funds for the DAV chapters.

We’ll attempt to update you on his progress.

June is Shaping Up to be a Busy Month

Wednesday, June 10th, 2009

A quick glance at the calendar reminds us the month of June is full of activities.

It all begins this weekend with the Miss North Dakota Pageant in town, along with the Economart/Delaney Baseball Tournament.

This means an influx of visitors and that is always a good thing.

The City Band begins yet another season in Harmon Park at the Virgil Syverson Performance Center with Virgil Syverson directing.

Concerts are held each Thursday evening beginning at 7:30 p.m.

Prior to the concerts you can dine on some fine hamburgers prepared by the Williston Korner Lions.

From June 18-21 you will want to check out the fun at Fort Union with the annual Rendezvous taking place.

Also on June 20 you can join in the 18th annual American State Bank & Trust Rendezvous Run.

That only gets you part way through the month.

On June 24 you are in for a special treat as at 8 p.m. at the VSPC in Harmon Park you can enjoy the sounds of High Valley.

This Canadian Trio offers Country Christian songs and you will want to be on hand.

That will be followed by another City Band event on June 25, leading up to June 27.

At 3 p.m. on June 27 you will be able to enjoy the sounds of the ND State American Legion Band at the VSPC, along with an evening concert provided by Williston native Eldon Johnson.

Eldon will bring along some friends in a concert set to begin at 7 p.m.

Then on June 30 at 5 p.m. you can enjoy the sounds of the Yamaha Summer Drum Camp.

That should keep you busy for a spell.

Mother Nature is Out to Lunch

Friday, June 5th, 2009

Hey folks, Mother Nature must be living in a dream world.

Somehow she has got things mixed up and the good folks in this part of the country are paying the price.

With temperatures dipping near the 30 mark once again the flowers and gardens took a beating.

Now the forecast calls for even cold temps, in the 40s, during the day…..Brrrrrrrr…

Hey, this is June…….

There is even a report pointing toward snowfall.

Now that is getting out of hand.

Well folks, if you haven’t put your warm jackets away you had best keep them handy for a few more days.

Till then there’s not much else we can do.

Unless you’re interested in ice fishing.
