Band Day set for May 7; Clean up begins

Thursday, April 21st, 2011

With the 79th annual Band Day fast approaching, the time has come for residents throughout our county to get things cleaned up.

Williston always likes to put on a good face for the arrival of many guests on May 7.

Nearly 20 area bands will be on hand once again.

Col. Jon Larvick, a Williston native, will serve as grand marshal, while the Yorkton, Saskatchewan, prep band will serve as the guest band.

May 7 shapes up to be one busy day with Band Day, a high school rodeo, evening auto races, a vintage and classic car show, Pride of Dakota show and numerous vendors in Harmon Park to enjoy the sounds of visiting bands.

Get out and enjoy.

No vote takes out penny tax by 31 votes

Tuesday, April 12th, 2011

Well folks, get ready for the same old thing.

The vote is in with 31 votes making the difference in defeat of the proposed city sales tax in Williston to help fund improvements for the local park district.

A total of 2,245 votes were cast with 1,107 in favor, while 1,138 cast a negative vote.

That means no extra funds will be available for the time being.

Now it is time for some of those no voices to pitch in to make up the difference.

If that will ever happen, time will tell.
