‘Mr. Music’ Virgil Syverson passes on

Tuesday, November 29th, 2011

Today is a sad day as we learned of the passing of Williston’s “Mr. Music” Virgil Syverson.

At the young age of 94, Virgil was called to his maker, joining his wife Margaret.

Since his arrival in Williston in 1947, Virgil has lifted his baton countless times, heading up the high school, city band, drum and bugle corps….to name a few.

One of his favorite groups was the upcoming TUBA Christmas.

He had organized this group, set to play on Saturday, for the past 19 years.

This group will play on, thinking of him, while playing his favorite song Jingle Bells.

Virgil will be missed by many.

May he trumpet in peace!

Happy Thanksgiving

Tuesday, November 22nd, 2011

We seize this opportunity to send out a Happy Thanksgiving wish to everyone.

This is a special time of year as we give thanks for the many good things that are happening in the Williston Basin.

One can only wonder what things would be like without the oil rush.

Not to worry.

The best thing to do is get on the band wagon and come along for the ride.

Once the turkey day is behind us it’s only a matter of time before that guy in the red suit makes his run.

We’re looking forward to that, as that means spring is a month closer.

Hang in there and enjoy…while getting out and making things happen.

Veterans Day 11-11-11 salutes area veterans

Friday, November 11th, 2011

With Veterans Day falling on 11-11-11, this proved to be a day to remember.

Folks in the Williston area turned out in great numbers Friday morning as a special ceremony was hosted by the American Legion Post 37.

An overflow crowd was on hand to enjoy several guests, with Rev. Martin Mock, a veteran, delivering the main address.

Rev. Mock spent time in the Coast Guard and also served in the Arm reserves.

Claire Eide was on hand to deliver a welcome home for the Vietnam veterans, calling attention to 50 years since the American involvement began in that country.

All-in-all it proved to be a good day.

NDSU Bison rise to No. 1 in football ranks

Tuesday, November 1st, 2011

Things have been rolling along in Fargo and the football program has struck it rich.

Now playing with the big boys the Bison have climbed the ladder and after a win over the University of Northern Iowa on Saturday NDSU now sits atop the national rankings.

Coach Craig Bohl has done an outstanding job in his short stay at NDSU and already talk has surfaced of offers for him to move on.

Bohl got his coaching start at the University of Nebraska and you can bet once an offer from the real Division I level comes, he would certainly have to take a look.

For now the Bison charge on with that No. 1 ranking to defend.
