Band Day Attracts Huge Crowd to Williston

May 9th, 2010

With the 78th annual Williston Band Day now in the books one has to consider it a huge success.

Some 15 bands were on hand with the Bismarck Century Patriot Band serving as the Guest Band.

Former Williston Chief of Police Don Wentz was on hand to serve as Grand Marshal.

The Williston bands were impressive as well, along with several area entries and the Mossing School of Music from Regina, Saskatchewan on hand.

This impressive unit, under the guidance of Tom Fogderud, led the parade and put on a stunning performance at the Virgil Syverson Performance Center on Saturday afternoon.

Harmon Park was overflowing with family and vendors, along with some jumping castles for kids to have added fun.

The weatherman must have had a chat with Mother Nature as the day proved to be spectacular on the weather front.

But, that can’t be said for the day after.

Now planning begins for the 79th annual, with thoughts leaning toward the 80th celebration.

It should be noted that Col. Jon Larvick has been selected to serve as Grand Marshal in 2011.

The wheels are already turning, so come along for the ride.

Scope to Interview Roxana Saberi on May 7

April 29th, 2010

Over the years we have had the pleasure of interviewing a number of key individuals.

However, here’s one interview we are really looking forward to.

On our May 7 “Scoping It Out” radio program on KEYZ 660 AM we will have the pleasure of interviewing Roxana Saberi.

This program is scheduled to begin at 4:45 p.m. on the Northern Plains radio station.

Roxana will be in Williston on May 14 to deliver the commencement address at Williston State College beginning at 10 a.m. at “The Well.”

A special book signing, with Books on Broadway serving as the host, will be held at the Old Armory beginning at 1:30 p.m. on May 14.

Roxana was held prisoner in Iran and her capture and time behind bars drew world-wide attention.

Having won the Miss North Dakota crown right here in Williston, Roxana considers Williston to be one of her favorite places and now she will be coming back for the first time since her release from captivity on May 11, 2009.

Tune in at 4:45 p.m. on May 7 to learn more about her upcoming visit.

This is one program you don’t want to miss.

Mother Nature Throws a Curveball

April 27th, 2010

Like it or not the cold weather has returned.

Apparently Mother Nature has tossed us a curve ball and we will have to bundle up for a few more days.

With the temperature expected to be around the 30 degree mark in the morning hours this tends to chill the bones.

Oh well, we will just have to hunker down and wait it out.

Looking ahead to the end of the week it appears things will come around and then it won’t be long before we begin to complain about the heat and mosquitoes.

Yes, that’s the way it goes.

For now hang in there and enjoy the ride.

Balmy Temperature Tends to Bring Warmth

April 19th, 2010

With the above average temperature we have been experiencing folks in this part of the country are warming up.

With that added warmth folks tend to be a little more friendly and get out and about.

Over the winter months everyone is bottled up and the first chance to get out and about changes things.

Now is the time to begin thinking about a summer of fun on the Northern Plains.

That can include making vacation plans, or simply making plans to enjoy our backyard.

Whatever you have in mind, get out and enjoy.
